There are currently over 300 wildfires burning in BC, and this year has the potential for many more given the extremely hot weather we have experienced. The community of Lytton has already been devastated by fire.
Currently, Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is working with emergency officials in BC to establish when and where they can best serve wildfire victims by bringing relief and support. As the opportunities for concrete and focused financial assistance are clarified by SP, the CPD will be donating to SP from our BC Emergency Fund. We encourage churches who wish to help those affected by the fires to monitor the SP website and do the same.
Samaritan’s Purse has opened up volunteer shifts through August 29th, but they expect to extend these dates into September as more areas become accessible and as requests for assistance increase. Churches are welcome to promote the opportunity to volunteer and SP would be happy to assist with group coordination including accommodations and travel if needed.
