The Langley Vietnamese Alliance Church young adults organized seven hours of fasting and prayer at the District Office two Saturdays ago. When we planned it, we didn’t know how many people would come and we had only expected about fifteen people. Boy was I ever wrong! There were 30 people (adults and children) that came out that day. Some came for couple hours, but most of us were there for the whole time. Praise God!
When we sat down and planned the schedule, we divided the day into four sessions, had four different people lead them, and if there was time left we planned to show a Christian movie to conclude the day. Each session would include worship songs, a message, and prayer.
I had the privilege to lead the first session. I shared a message on biblical fasting and prayer. To conclude the message, I called people to take time to examine their lives and hearts before God. Many of them cried as they confessed their sins and repented to God. It was an amazing experience.
There was a couple in our church who had been in conflict for months. They did not talk to each other. They work in the same place, but the wife would carpool with someone else to work. I knew I needed to do something, and so beforehand I asked God to help me to help this couple and asked Him to bring them to the fasting and prayer day. The couple came, in different cars of course. After the reflection and self-examination time, I invited this couple to join me with another couple, who were also aware of the situation, in a separate private room and we prayed together. We talked a bit about their issue then we held hands and prayed. The couple cried and confessed to God and each other. After that day, God has reconciled them. They now to go to church and bible study together in one car. Praise God!
We also had a special prayer for one of our brothers who is battling stage 4 colon cancer. We do not know what God’s plan is for this man, but we trust in Him. Before he came, he told me that he would only come for a couple of hours as his health may not permit him to stay longer. He ended up stayed until the end and he and his wife left the meeting feeling encouraged and loved. Their love and faith for God increased abundantly since.
Eight hours had gone by, but felt like we just started a couple of hours ago. Many people gave their testimonies as to how God touched their hearts. It was powerful. Everyone enjoyed the fasting and prayer day. What a blessed day!
I left the meeting feeling very blessed and happy. I was happy not because of the number of people that turned out on that day, but because of what we had experienced. God is so great and amazing! He blessed us so much that day. I have committed to fasting and prayer once a week, and it is a little bit hard to do it by myself, but I feel very blessed afterward. I am committed to the C&MA core value: “We do nothing until we pray.”
